Education Workshop
Roundtable discussion of
microbiology teaching
Morning session:
Chris Burke, University of Tasmania, will discuss threshold concepts in microbiology.
The question is: What topics in microbiology can be considered as threshold concepts,
which must be learnt because they are fundamental to understanding how microbiologists think?
Elwyn Oldfield, University of Queensland, will describe her experiences with Peer Assisted Study
Sessions (PASS) and pose the question: can PASS help students achieve better learning?
Afternoon session:
Cheryl Power, University of Melbourne and others will discuss providing effective feedback to
engender good learning. The question is:
What constitutes good feedback, and how is
it best given?
Come along for one or both sessions, and
share your experiences and knowledge.
Contact
Chris or
Cheryl if you would like to be a
presenter.
